Just for kicks, photos of my cars... sans the minivan. Seems I owe the 530i a bath...

Nice seats in the MR2!!! Are those stock? They look a little sportier than the ones in my Avalon!

My bro just picked up a MR2 turbo, its fun fun stuff.

Any tips, he installed a fuel cut defender, boost controller, and turbo timer.
He is keeping the HP low, he knows more about the cars mechanical limitations than I do, but it feels fast.

Nice rides.

FCD and boost controller are the best bang for the buck, for sure. Clean injectors, copper/colder plugs, and maybe a lower-temp thermostat and he can run it at 14-15 psi with no worries - add it up, you're already a good 36-40 hp over stock for ~$100. Stock exhaust is pretty restrictive, especially the mid-pipe... My only real good tip is: don't lift off throttle in a turn, once a mid-engine car loses it it'll spin like a top. :p

We have experienced that already. Letting of in a turn, OVERSTEER CITY.

But its fun

hi Mike.

nice photos !

so if you were to lift off and MR2 rear end started to slide, does getting back on the throttle catch it again? or what else can you do?

what kind/year minivan do you have?

You can catch it with with gradual throttle, it's really only a problem when you're going way faster than you should be - most cars would be in a ditch by then. Unless it's raining or snowing, then it's just downright dangerous!

Mike,

Any chance of a closeup picture of the rear clusters on your 530i? I've not seen those before, who makes them?

Cheers,

Ahhh, cheap eBay crap, unfortunately... you really notice the difference when you hold the OE Hellas in one hand and these in the other

Ah well, never mind. Standard white indicator replacements it is then.

Really if you let of, and get back on the throttle you are basically only going to get oversteer, or hey if your into drifting you WANT THAT.

My brother is.

Ah the memories (I never did lose it in my MR, except once in the snow ;-). I still miss my MR... it was just plain fun. It's interesting to compare the MR with the e34 - I never owned both at the same time, but from my recollections I wrote this up.

Now that I re-read it I see that I was a little harsh on the 535 - it's not as slow as I made it out to be, especially at highway speeds...

Warton - great write-up, right on the money. Handles like a bobsled in the snow. Should've tried it with an extra 90HP. :)

Josh - I recall saving the rear a couple times at the onset of losing it.... must've been the LSD :0
