and then broke, it was hard enough to get out, all the leads were somewhat hard to get off, but the back starter bolt was a bitch, here a pic of where it was.

on the back bolt you have to run an extension all the way behind the mount support for the intake manifold, it was quite the task.

here it is on the kitchen table, apart minus the motor

the problem was the gear was frozen so it wouldent come out and engage the flywheel, heres the position its was frozen in

probably need to replace the starter, or find an old one somewhere to get a new bendix.

The solinoid usally don't come with the Bendix lever (the thing that is busted)

Good luck

check the brushes and commutator, and it should be as good as any rebuilt.

Why mess around. Call All Euro in royal oak - I think they stock that whole starter. When my m30 started took a dump - I didn't mess around. Need the car to be reliable. Don't want to be 100 miles from home - twist the key and hear nothing !

i "mess around" because i dont have the money to not mess around, as it turns out though, there was an old bosh starter, UNUSED, at my dads work, only the boltholes wouldent match, so i took the parts i needed, rebuilt and regreased the thing, will be putting it back in tonight.

Make sure the bushing at the rear end (WRT the car) of the bendix housing is good. My old 535's starter crapped out there. I could move the shaft over 1/8" side to side.
