e34 vs e28????

sorry for this dumb ????, but i just bought a 1988 bmw euro spec, 535i. it has cruise, ac, power windows, inline 6(3.4), and it needs a new passenger front strut. how the heck do you tell if its a e34 or an e28??????i tried vin decoders, etc... but don't get any help there. please help...the car runs great and the best part is i only paid $564 for it, at a closed bid military auction. yes, i'm military in germany.

weren't e34's introduced in europe in 88? mine is a build date 11/88 e34...
