There are a few issues with the paint, this is after a brushless carwash and no handwax.... Next ones will be with a hand wax. Ill be posting some pics of the problems with the clearcoat on the roof and trunk. When I get the car color matched in the next month or two Ill have those fixed, but I do have some questions on what to do with the small scratches on the car and such... Ive heard of wet sanding and claybarring, but I dont know what they do..

don't mean to hyjack thsi thread but torque how do you make JUST your car focused inside your sig?

And about small scraches try some rubbing compund and a buffer.

Mask the car out in Photoshop and add a light blur to the rest.

I had read a faq on shock/spring combinations, but now I cant find it. My concern was that the Sachs kit would be a bit harsher than I was looking for in my daily ride. Ill have to figure out where I read it.

No, don't use rubbing compound! It's like 50 grit sandpaper to your clearcoat. I use rubbing compund to remove rust from stone chips before touching up.

I would check out the Meguiar's website
http://www.meguiars.com/index.cfm

A recent article in the Roundel advised using a clay bar with lubricant and for deeper scratches use something like Meguiar's ScratchX or a similar product from Zymol.

From that article on shocks/springs, it seems like the Koni/Vogtland would be the best combo for me... not too harsh.. but with a bit more drop than the Eibachs so a more agressive stance.

Yea, I had read some bad things about constantly using compound on your car (of course I have done it before selling a car:p )

When I do my lowering I'm going for Eibach springs. They are said to be harsher, but they also produce the springs for some pretty big names in the suspension market. which makes me think that they know what they're doing.
Personally, I'm hoping that Koni releases the FSD shocks for the e34 soon.

Interior is just about perfect. Some twisting on the drivers side seat that needs to be fixed, other than that its great.

Claybarring pulls the pollution out of paint and makes it smooth to the touch like when the paint job was brand new. Get the Mother's clay bar kit. The detailing spray has a cinnamon smell that makes you happy to be doing the job. There was a thread about clay barring a few months ago. you can do a search for more info.

When you are talking scratches--how deep.? Are we talking the fine scratches that car washes with brushes put in or are we talking real scratches? I think 3M has a swirl removing product for the fine stuff.

I agree with both things that have been said about rubbing compound. It is dangerous but effective stuff. If someone elses paint has been left on your paint, it is the best product to get it off. It is good for getting rust out of chips. If you are going to try it, try to locate extra fine grade. Rub lightly and briefly and check the progress. You can always rub more but you can't but paint back after you have taken it off. Sometimes I put rubbing compound on my bare finger and rub with that--less likely to do damage. As far as I am concerned, it is the miracle of the modern world for some car finish problem but for others it does absolutely nothing.

Both Roadfly and Autopia have awesome detailing sections of their websites.

Ok, Im new here so I dont want to get into trouble for crossposting other forums... But I just finished the Detailing 101 thread over at bimmerforum (This is the same thread at detailersclub http://www.detailersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1142)

I had also made a thread in regards to the paint.. heres what I had.

Ok, so when I bought my car, it had been sitting in a garage for 2+ years.... it was covered in grime and dirt... but my indy thought that the paint would shine after a good detail so I bought it.

Well, it appears that some of the grime was stuff that eats cars... well, not really, but close. Its not that the car looks terrible.

But here are some night/flash shots without a fresh coat of wax. You can see the clearcoat is gone and cracked in some areas. There are also alot of swirls along the side of the car.

I really want to get the finish looking cherry. My thought is repaint the roof, trunk, and colormatch the skirts and bumpers... if Im really feeling in the money, replace the gaskets behind the door handles and have them color matched also.

But what can I do for the minor imperfections along the sides of the car? Ive heard of claybaring (though I couldnt tell you what it is or how I do it) or wet sanding. And I know enough to stay away from using compound on the entire car (though years ago I did sell a car by doing this and waxing it every day for a week :devillook)

Without further delay, heres the pics... suggestions/help is appreciated :)

The night pics above were after about two weeks of bad weather and no wash. The day pics above were after a decent pressurewash and wax. And after I install my mods over the next week or so, Ill actually do a nice detail of the car and post up pics...

So, now $300+ in detailing supplies later, Im just waiting on UPS to get me the rest of my stuff so I can start getting her looking great.

I'd stay away from the Depo's.

Bit late for that, they are on my living room table... After reading alot about them, I did order the Lamin-X and I plan on adding some silicone around the lens prior to installing them. Seems the only issues I read were people that didnt like AE's in E34's and lens's that had broken.

Prolumen Xenon kit was ordered monday and should be here next week.. Im concerned with mounting the ballasts, so I might have my mechanic do that.

Im also a bit unsure on all of the guides Ive read on the subframe derlin inserts that I have... gonna give it a shot, but might have my indy do that aswell.

I can tell it would look very nice in person. When one takes pictures of cars in the dark with a flash, the wheel-wells show up too well and ruin the picture, at least in my experience.

^ what he said. the smoked tails look really good on your color car. some exhaust tips would complement the car as well, and would work with the dark/flash shots. for like 15 bucks you cant really go wrong.
