I was looking up info about my car and stumbled upon these IIHS crash test videos. I was specifically looking for the '99 Land Rover Discovery video but I couldn't find it. I wanted to see them organized so I put together a little list for your enjoyment. This is an exhaustive list from 1998 to 2002: you can plug and play with the numbers after 2002 if you wish. I was specifically looking for the '99 land rover discovery video but I couldn't find it: if any of you do, please let me know.

While I was watching some of these, the band 'Korn' was on a TV show and I think their music makes sense when you look at slow motion auto crashes.

You can see a well-organized group of crash videos (including 5mph crashes) at Progressive. http://www.progressive.com/rc/VehicleOwnership/CrashTestVideos.asp. The link worked for me a sometimes.

Good job. This should be archived somewhere. At least for the entertainment value.

Poor neon drivers......

I assume these cars are going 40mph?

That neon was scary,,, deathtrap for sure.
I have survived a crash at 55MPH head on with a dump truck, so these vids are real for me...
The BMW X5 rear end almost got 6 feet off the ground!
My new 2003 330 is hopefully much better than the 2000 3 series.

I have done my "test" as a crash dummy.... I really don't reccomend it!

I would sell that F150 as fast as possible after seeing that..... I give you a 10% chance of survival, WITH multiple major damages.

American companies should be embarrassed by this, the F150, the Durango... people buy them to be safe.... scary!

The f-150 is by far worse off than the neon, who would have guessed?

the volvo and the 04 maxima with side curtains did well....
I bought the 330 for the side curtain airbags.... life savers in a side impact.

Yes, right up until they meet with Mr. Cement Wall.

do you have a link to any side impact testing???
I couldn't find any side impact testing hosted on MSN's servers but I did post a link for Progressive's site at the bottom of my original post. Their site hosts a bunch of side impact and 5 mph crashes: http://www.progressive.com/video/05_FordEscape_SI.asx

Maybe if I can’t sleep tonight I’ll catalogue those for an exhaustive archivable list.

For the Ford F-150 fans, here is the latest model: http://www.progressive.com/video/04_Ford150_HSF.asx

I think I am most impressed with the tires in all these accidents. It's no wonder you see a lot of used tires for sale (at least in the South). "Just in a small accident" could mean they were pinned between the rim and the frame while the car was folding in half.

Now I want to see some of these small cars in a head-on crash with a full-size truck. In Michigan, the average curb weight has to be near 4,000# with all the GM and Ford SUVs. Even the old Ford F-150 would do well in that accident.

Ditto on the side curtain airbags Sharkman540i; they are a new requirement on my next car.

Talk about a lot better....

Ford has always been good at making cars that are death traps.....

mate i cant belive some of the cars out there, this is awesome. The suzauki G vitara is rubbish, most of the jap cars do alright, the early maxima is crap, the american cars are all just hopeless. The BMW x5 amazing, the doors dont even come off their hinges or deform one bit. Basicly you can really see what you need in a car out of all this, a front end which colapses well and from the firewall onwards you want titanium like strength. I cant view the older f150 but the new one from the later post is actually quite good.

Hey there aint much out there on e34 crash safety. But check this out
http://motoring.racv.com.au/racvm/whichcar/UCSRArticle.cfm?ID=56363EFA-60ED-4624-A7273E1C08AAE167

it aint pretty for our car, the bar graph is very very limited in information but it does indicate that the E30 is safer than the E34. I really doubt this and would hate to think it's true cause I upgraded from the E34 for a safer family car!!

That 328i didn't need any parental guidance it's a textbook example of a car designed to crash with high safety margin. The front is collapsed to as short as possible leaving very intact passenger compartment.

I'd be more worried if the front didn't fold. BMW did great job with the E46. :)
