here u can see the HUGE difference in color temps
the 5000K look almost yellow in comparison to the fog lights
looking closely at the ground you can see different colors from
the two types of lights

They don't look aimed at all...

Why would you want the right side higher?

Typically - you get a little more road lit up without blinding oncoming traffic by aiming the right side a little higher than the left. It is frequently done this way in Europe with the Projectors and HID - JT

Jon K

Theres no such thing as 6600k bulbs lol

Scott H

The projector cutoff ALREADY ramps up to the right as it is. The combo of the left and right lamps with cutoffs angling up to the right should provide plenty of light to the right. Also if they are aligned high enough the cutoff will spread higher and higher and glare will be obnoxious further down the road.

I have my euro lamps and HIDs aligned by the book on my M5 and don't have ANY problem with light on the right side of the road.

i suppose they would do a good job a little lower
but when i light up a highway exit sign from WAY far
away it makes me grin :D like this

they do shoot VERY high as distances increase and its nice
around here in nj on the highways and such

alignment on the fogs is pretty much as high up the road as i could get em
to be

why they called it a 6600K i'm not sure, but that's what is on

and obnoxious to other drivers. Like I said, properly aimed, my euros + HIDs do the same thing just as good re: signage.

If I was an oncoming driver I guess I would hope you would find that exit sign and take it just to get your annoying headlights off the road in front of me.

Your M5! However - I am confused. Your profile only lists you having a Touring as does your auto sig display....... Whats the deal?

Do you have some sort of agenda here with HID? Your entry into the thread seemed full of attitude. If you have a legitamate suggestion perhaps advancing it without the passive aggression might work better.

Just a thought. - JT

alignment in your offering. You only mentioned something about aiming the right headlamp UP. That is what I was replying to. Now you are saying a state inspector aligned if high for you?

Here's your help (http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html)

Does my profile have to list every car I own? I didn't know that was a rule. I also have no agenda....just think it's a bit inconsiderate to raise headlight alignment when we are already using lamps not technically designed for HID and with a cutoff not commensurate with modern HID lamp design. I was merely stating that I get great light output when my headlamps are aimed according to ECE procedure (as given in the helpful link above). Laser alignment is usually used on US code lamps using the three nipples on the lense (which you will find not present on ECE lamps).

I haven't taken many pictures of the M5 because it was a busy year but this is one of the few I have.

I took it to the Shop minutes after I rewired the plugs and installed the Euros while the front Grille was still off. As long as he isnt performing the state inspection he was happy to do it.

It goes to a different Inspector for State Inspection. I have had both the Euros (with illegal HID) and the Smoked Hella tails pass 3 times now. I have never had another driver flash me from the other lane.

As well I have had friends I have followed tell me there were no problems.

I think I have covered all the bases I am morally compelled to do when running a light rig such as I am.

Open to suggestions - dont mean to hijack the thread - It was originally a guy excited about his mod before it descended into the "court of HID Judgement".

"Did you BOTHER to have those aimed? They really don't look well aimed....."

a better way to state that was "Gosh - you might want to have the aim on those checked - the light cutoff on the right looks high - too me. I could be wrong but that's just my opinion"

That is what he has. Look at the pics on page 2... You can see the spots if you look closely. Without adding lens covers, you can't really get the CCFL DDE's like I have on my E36 (those are the ones that light up evenly).

I felt it was no longer necessary to be a good boy.

Also....I did not say the mod was stupid....I just responded to comments about aiming the lights high. I think the euro lamps are a great look, and I drive so much at night that I felt it was a worthwhile setup for myself. I also am highly aware that the whole setup is illegal, and I try not to step on anymore toes than I already do, by keeping them aimed properly. There are a lot of documents being drafted against the use of HID lamps. Most people state the issues with them are excessive glare. Why would we want to make it harder on ourselves to obtain and use these modifications by giving the people against them more ammunition?

I don't have a problem with every thread I post in. I just add my knowledge/experience. People usually seem to have a problem with that b/c it is not what they wanted to hear!

see asshat isn't as insulting as ppl make it out to be
its a great word with many levels to it

the whole setup has been decently priced.

depo off ebay are in the 200 range
each set of hids was in the 300 range, rather 300 and a lilttle change

the depos i bought really early when they first came out, and i overpaid
for them but nowadays they're readily avail

the fog housings i took from my sisters car =]

wiring it in was really easy and the main qualm was
figuring out the adapters and taking the front grill
off heheh

Hmm, yeah, not sure about that. When off in daylight, they look kinda iffy, and, on, the four hotspots are clearly visible. Bahnstormer's nighttime shots hide that.

Not really sure now that I want the AE myself. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll start a poll.

Perhaps we would have said that.... if it were opinion. Go ahead and find ECE headlight aiming charts and they will confiirm, in fact, that both headlights are to be level. The very nature of __/ __/ cutoff pattern lights the right side higher - you dont aim the right side higher ADDITIONALLY. Its not opinion, it's fact.

I finally received all my electrical components (4300k H1 rebased bulbs and harnesses) to do my HID conversion today. I will be using Hella Generation 3 ballast. Everthing will be plug and play, hopefully without any message codes.
I just need to either fab or take a visit to the stealer for some brackets and I will be set. I should have everthing installed sometime next week.
I will try and post some pictures. I may need some help from the more recent college grads in the family.
As Christmas day slowly closes in upon us, everybody take time out to catch your breath and reflect on all your blessings and to help the less fornunate when you can.
Happy Holidays,

to make your point and gain agreement while still stating fact. Passive agression will elicit a defensive response. Gentle persuasion is more convincing and effective.

I am merely trying to make some suggestions that can increase the civility on the board. Hey- I have no dog in this fight. I feel I have done enough to ensure I am not one of the Xenon Light Warriors on the highway (Although - I will review Stern site again this weekend)

I would just hate to see this board become like the surly, ugly, unpleasant, nasty place that Roadfly has become where its more important to be RIGHT! than helpful.

I have seen you guys post here before and I have to believe that you feel the same way. I will now step off the soapbox and hope for the best. Thanks - JT
