I have a '97 540i here and the digital readout in the gauge cluster is faulty. Is this a common problem with these cars? The dealer wants major bucks for this part, the gauge cluster is serviced as an whole unit, and it is non-refundable.
I did some continuity testing near the ribbon cable that controls the pixels on this readout and found no faults. The dealer stocks the USA versions of the part, but according to the VIN#, I have one here that's a Canadian version... which means the part costs even more.
If anyone else has had this problem, and found that a replacement gauge cluster fixed it, please let me know.
