what is the part number for the cluster bulbs?I noticed to day that although my SI is lit the little compartment next to it is not so i cant see the inspection or oil dervice indication.....i can see something but its very dim.....or is this a caps issue(the odometer lamp also is intermittent)

what is the part number for the cluster bulbs?I noticed to day that although my SI is lit the little compartment next to it is not so i cant see the inspection or oil dervice indication.....i can see something but its very dim.....or is this a caps issue(the odometer lamp also is intermittent)Take out your instrument cluster, open it (by untwisting black thumbscrews - you'll figure it out once you have it outside), inspect all the bulbs and their contacts - clean all the contacts and replace the bulbs (they're cheap). You can also check for bad capacitors while you're at it.

My bulb information (extracted from cross-references on this forum) for a late 89/early 90 E34 :

6 - 1.5 watt bulbs - (probably only from BMW dealer :( ) - ‘ON’ most of the time and are for :
auto gear indicator
check instrument display
service indicator
odometer

3 - 3 watt bulbs - gauge lighting
13 - 1.2 watt bulbs - only 'ON for short periods and are for :
warning lights
turn signals
high beam indicator

If they're the same type of tiny bulbs I was always changing on my E12 they are dealer only parts but are pretty cheap. You might be best buying a 'card' of them and going for a discount.
