Doesn't look to bad but I got beef with the shop your using.

If they are patching/bondoing rock chips etc.. on the hood, they should be sanding the old paint down to metal, reprimer, fille and even then repaint. Not be putting bondo over previous paint etc... its not going to look as good when it is out.

grave77
11-19-2005, 03:17 PM
well ... I asked them to sand it down to the metal .. but they said that they will sand the old paint and use it as a primer.

P.S.: ... did u see 2 pics ? I'm afrade I might have trouble with my webserver. I'm hosting my owne pics now. That Goes to anyone who cant see the pics.

Agreed...........I concure , older paints are sponges. Delamination and issues can occur with the respray.
I'd inquire about having them ATLEAST spray an epoxy sealer over that lame attempt.
Better catch them now rather than dealing with warranty hassles.
JMHO.................Vinny :)

NO problem to use bondo over old paint layers just as long as the dent or spot you're trying to fill out is sanded back to bear metal and the clear coat surrounding it is completely sanded away until reaching the original primer coat. If they seal the repaired section with a proper thinner based primer, the paint job will look as sharp as new. No discolorations or peeling off will occur. I'm more concerened about all those small bondo patches they are making, they just don't look too smooth and there seem to be vivible sharp edges surounding them.

Be sure to check the paint job under artificial light like a diy carwash or even as simple as the gas station. This light will reveal any mistakes in the paint and under coatings.

I like the wide grill deal, makes your car look newer. I couldnt really tell in the first pictures but why the bondo on the left side of the hood? Its like 20 inches long, and the right side is about a foot long...was the hood all warped? I think that since they really stripped the car down that they have some idea of what they can do and how long it will last, how long is this job supposed to hold on?

get them to do the door handles and all the trim the same colour too..

i am surprised you took it in with stock rims.. when i had mine painted i sent the car in with the bottlecaps on

Even if you want to leave the door handles and trims black, make sure they remove the trims before they paint.

It is very easy to do and you will then have no mask lines. There's a hole in the inside of the door at the same height as the handle. Reach inside with a hooked tool and pull the tang. The trim pops off.

This is most definitely a common, and more importantly, an ACCEPTABLE method. Factory paint holds paint just as well as any primer would. Most shops will bondo in the old paint, prime on top, and paint again. This is definitely acceptable. To sand the car down to metal and base primer, then paint, would be upwards of $8,000

Don't worry, My car was done the same way and the paint still looks great!

u only have a spoiler on the front ... or its more like a lip ... otherwise u have the OEM shape ... right ?

my side skirting has one missing one recently before this paint job also the rer spoiler was broken ... so am reverting back to OEM ... I'm afrade it would look poor ... but they will paint the skirts that was matte black with the same colore ...

yea it's the bavauto dtm chin one.. i kinda think it needs the side skirts and the rear apron. but then again i might get air suspension so it will be slammed and look good regardless.. shrug

wonderful car mate ... your car is very exciting ... I only dont like the Ac-Schnitzer rims with the edges ... I liked the smooth edge. I think the 17" BBS BMW rims will look wonderfull ... but did you replace the 17"s with 16"s ??

I found this .... its the M5 bumber too ... they asked too much for it at the junkyard ... I'm thinking of ordering the ducts from somewhere on the web maybe ....
