SRS contol unit

Got a new SRS control unit (BMW 65-77-8-374-821) from BMA for a triggered SRS light that was read as a "hard fault" by the dealer who said this module needed replacing ($692). Does anyone know if the module has to be "encoded" or programmed before putting it in or can I install it (20 min job) and have the dealer encode it, if needed, with it installed? I don't know if this module comes preprogrammed with the car's info so all I have to do is get the SRS light reset.
