anyone know anything about satalite tv/internet? What do I need to know before I think about pulling the plug on my cable company. They just raised the cable to 42.00 and internet to 39.99, this is just too much, is there an alternative?

Thanks guys.

I have a dish network account, it's 22.00/mo or so. Internet varies, I have BellSouth DSL, 49.00. They do have cheaper packages that have a slower connect speed. go to dslreports.com to see what's available in your area.

I pay $126.00/month here in Evanston, IL. But I have cable modem (3 mB d/l and 512 kB u/l) and every pay station imaginable but it is all a right off because my wife and I both have home based businesses).

I've got DirecTV and it sucks, but mainly because of dish location issues. We need to move the dish due to trees, and reception has been incredibly sucky lately.

Can you explain the write off of cable tv? I write off my dsl (sbc $29p/m for 11mbps...decent enough and very stable)

I was wrong 92.00 a month!! need some kind of package deal or something. I read there is some law regarding "rural" areas that there is a non competition aggreement so we cant get ANY services, cable or internet from any other sources but satallite. This sux.

I write off the whole cable bill as one lump sum rather than specifying how much is TV and how much is internet. We use about a third of our place for business so a third of all expenses (gas, electrical, rent, etc.) are business writeoffs although the complete phone used for business and I would have no need for the cable internet except for business. I also have a good accountant who makes sure all is on theup and up and no red flags are raised in suspicion.

Check out Verizon DSL. It is very fast and relatively cheap at 29.95/month. It works with regular old phone lines and it does not require a second number. You can be on the phone and internet at the same time; without interferance. Out side of T1, it's the best thing I've used on a PC. All of my cable buddies are switching and the ones that have already converted love it.

nawww, those are cool no doubt but I was referring to the Coolbox II its a little box that you hook up to your cable internet to *test* and see what channels that you can pay to get. You know free per view, cinifree and showfree, them sorta things.

That's a bummer... I didn't know the ISP were being restricted. I was under the impression: if you have a phone line, then you could chose what ever ISP you wanted -- as long as you are willing to pay for the service. Have you checked recently?

Which display mode are you currently using? I don't have much experience with Linear and Hybrid. However, when using Threaded mode... I have noticed when using the quick reply feature, you need to make sure the thread you are responding too is displayed above.

What I'd really like to know is how to move the post after you realized it has been put in the wrong spot.
