Any chance you tried different ways out of the hole? I'd like to find out if starting in 2nd gear on my 535 is actually quicker, to say 60. It seems like it, but I have no verification. I don't think massive 1st gear wheelspin is an issue, so it may be moot.

You have to heat up the tires so they grab harder. Its tough finding the right point to launch the car. Fine line between hooking up the tires and boggin the motor.

Street radials will get slippier upon heating them, the trick is to give it just enough that you are on the verge of spinning them.

Bahn, pulling 2.4-2.5 for a 60' time, I think you still have some room to drop the time with an improved launch. I would think you should be able to get to 1.9-2.0's with some practice. That would drop you into the low 15's. Were you getting wheelspin in 1st? How did you find the tranny was shifting?

Cheers,

yes the 1-2 shift seems to take ages....and you blow through first so quickly

i have a uuc ssk so the shift times arent too bad...
the eat chip lets me wind it out to 6800 but i shifted into 2nd at 6200ish
with teh 3.64 my 1st is shorter but mind u this is a 3666lbs of stuff that
needs to get rolling =]

hey duey,

every time i ran i increased the launch rpm - that 15.6 that i did was at 3200rpm and a 50% clutch thingy...so i did 3200rpm green light, release to 50% fullthrottle release all the way

i was 25psi in my tires (which are from 2 different companies) so that hurt me
the most i think...

next time it'll be 5000rpm and clutch slip for good launches....

my tranny was ok...i missed 3rd on the first run tho =] well it grinded a bit

i do have a clutch stop and a ssk installed tho
oh yah and a m5 illuminated shift knob!!! ;)

wheelspin in first i kept to a min - that last run the 15.6 was a little hoppy
tho....

i spun going into 2nd the track had a lotta rubber on it

cheers,
martin

if i had a 3.91 rear i think i'd do a 2nd gear launch

again i should have gone less pressure in teh tires closer to 17-20 for more
grip

first run was a drop clutch from 2500 and the middle was a drop clutch with throttle modulation from 3000

the last run i modulated the clutch from 3200 and thought it went well

looks like the 535i needs 5000 rpm launches :D

next time!

Wow, with 255's in back, too! There's some pretty good torque in that M30!

Maybe with that deep a gear, 2nd might not be a bad idea, at least to try once. I have to say, 1st in my 6-speed is rediculously steep...I redline at about 38 mph! I think I would try launching in second once or twice just to see how it goes. I'd hate to smoke the clutch thogh, so I would just be happy with driving at speed...I leave the straight line stuff to a '73 440 Charger that high-12's on 255/60's :)

Cheers,
Duey
