I recently picked up a 3.64 LSD diff that came from a 90 735 to go into my 89 535 5-speed. My diff is a 3.46 open diff. It all looks good and the Bentley doesn't show any real difficulty in the swap but before I go to it, I'd like some comments.

I plan to change the diff fluid and seals as well as get new input and output hardware. Any glitches I should be aware of?

If this swap is so ez, why do we not have any interchange information between available E32/38 diffs into E34s? While the 3.64 is not a huge jump, about 6% advantage, it should be very nice to have that percentage as well as the LSD over the stock 3.46 even with LSD.

I'm having the input flanges swapped on the same conversion today. My 3.64lsd supposedly is from an early e34 525..

I am looking forward to the new gears.

It is good. First gear is more useable than it was with the old 3.46 open box. The old differential was indeed grumbly & loose. The new box is quieter & seems to make the car accelerate more quickly though the gears. A local differential shop swapped the input flanges for $70, a great deal in this area. I replaced the upper rubber differential mount from BMA. The old one doesn't have any huge cracks visible when unloaded.

I'll get Jeff to drive the car for impressions.
