Evening all. Got directed here by Big Kriss in Australia. Looks like I have finally found an E34 compatable site. Currently own a 1988 E30 M3 and an 1990 Hartge E34 M5.

The M5 came from Japan earlier this year and was convereted to Right Hand Drive by myself and a mate who is into all that sort of carry on.

Cheers
Dave

Nice car, DCR!
Can you tell us from your experience how much it cost additionally to the FOB price Japan to import the car to your place, mods, import duty etc. to get it finally registered?
Probably very interesting subject for many others which are considering a low km/mileage car from Japan.
Thanks

Hartge is a German BMW tuner (http://www.hartge.de/html/indexuk.html) and they still have a production line for an E34 (http://www.hartge.de/html/e34uk.html). Their tuning is even more brutal than the Alpina's. Hartge BMWs are not so uncommon in Europe.

I nearly bought a Hartge E30 a number of years ago. It was a beast and regret not buying it to this day. The work was done by Birds in the UK and I was worried about the rust from a UK car. Are Birds still in business UK drivers?

Just looked at the Hartge website. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of the Hartge mods.

You could probably add $10000-$12000AUD to the cost of the original purchase. The car worked out about $15000 cheaper than any on the market in Australia at the time.

Some pics of the interior prior to the conversion:-

The car had 110000 kilomtres on it. About a week or so after getting it on the road it blew a head gasket so the motor was pulled, stripped and all freshend up again. It runs very nicely now.

The car has recently had a complete 13hr detail that involved a complete paint clean, cut and polymer sealant. It was finished with 2 coats of Swissol. Swissol is not cheap, but is by far the best I have ever seen.

I would be interested in seeing some pictures of the Hartge mods.Visually it has a Hartge rear spoiler. When we pulled the motor apart to do the head gasket it had Hartge Cams (unknown what grind). The rims are Breyton Softlines, so the original Hartge rims are still somewhere in Japan. The exhaust appear to be a stock BMW factory model although it has a much deeper growl than my friends M5 who also has a factory exhaust.. The rear section of the centre console had the Hartge Plaque complete with serial number on it. The serial number is the reverse of part of my VIN number.

I have emailed time and agian Hartge.jp for some answers but they dont respond. I rang them in Japan but the langauge barrier got the vetter of our conversation. I have a friend heading to Japan shortly and have given him instructions to find out anything he can.

I dont have mods planned for the future. I am having the slef leveling suspension built shortly to fix a seeping rear shock and will also replace the rims. Other than that it will be kept as is for the most as it is my our daily driver so I want it to be as modified free as possible.

My M3 keeps me entertained for the modification bug. I am doing a complete 2.5 litre rebuild after detonating it at Easter on the track. Hopefully it will see up clsoe to the 280+HP when finsihed.

Welcome to this forum. Nice to see another Brissy member.

Pitty about the rain today, it would have been great to see your car with all the others at the all German day.
