For one of these!!
I went to the local dealership (100kms away) to feast my eyes on the new M5!! Oh my GOD!! Here's the happy snaps...

Hmmm... Not that different to the 530i sport.

Big front air intakes. Truly F1 inspired, the ducts on the corners of the bumper cool brakes, then get channelled thru under the car to cool gearbox, exhaust, diff...

...Then escape out the rear from the vent between those damn-sexy exhaust pipes!!

The element I was most interested in... the V10. Much to my dismay, the salesman didn't start it up :(

Grilles on the front guards is a dead giveaway that this monster means business...

Just as Satan himself would order it... Sapphire Black with Indiannapolis Red leather. Sittin in the driver's seat is immediately comfortable, and pure joy!! Everything is right there within reach, and it all just feels 'right'. You sit very low in the M5, (and it actually felt like sitting in the E34, as I set my seat down as low as possible when I drive.)

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/stnick/IMG_04562.jpg
However, one look at this gauge made me realise this is no E34... Top speed on that dial has mega "Grin-factor" all on its own!!

What a engineering feat!! Once again BMW raises the stakes in the super-saloon game. Now... Which of you are gonna lend me $240k??

I'd give my soul up any day for one like that if one would take it :)

Though, ONE thing i hate about the new M5 is the transmission. I can't believe BMW went from E34 M5 nothing-but-manual policy to E60 M5 no-manual-at-all! And in all seriousness, lack of manual would make me think and probaby decide against it even if i had 240K. Please note, to me nothing goes over an M5 (or BMW in general).

Otherwise, your pics gave me goose bumps. Thank you.

Where do you live? In the SF Bay Area, $240K is *only* a down payment....

Maybe, but admit it, the E60 sure make our E34s look old....

It may be an engineering marvel and a kick in the shorts to drive but I still prefer to look under the hood and see a big "M Power" cast into the valve cover rather than acres of plastic. Something like this . . .

My Mom loved the quote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." I don't think she meant a M Engine but she might have!

I agree about the front being not too nice, but other than that...I WANT ONE!!!! Did anyone notice how eerily alike the rear seat is to the e34 rear seat? I would be interested to see if it would just pop right in...:)

In 10 years, the Japanese would have tired of this model, and we can get it at 10% its original value. Let's wait :D

I very much doubt that. That car looks noticeably narrower. I wonder how much you'd pay just for the back seat?

Looking at the seats, i just noticed that the belt buckles arent incorporated into the seat like in the E34. Why is BMW going backwards? First they take away our driver facing console and now they take away our ingenious rear buckles.

I think you will find that is done to accommodate 3 lap/sash belts across the back seat. I don't think they can have 2 coming from the same central area as would be required.

Ah youre right, i forget our cars only have 2 rear belts.

Alexlind123

Only 2 rear belts? What about the lap belt in the middle, or is this only meant for a child seat?

Only 2 lap / sash belts in the E34 plus a central lap belt. OK but not as safe as 3 lap / sash belts which the E 60 has.

that back buckle already changed on E39 i think. But love it when people sit in the back for the first time. "w...where is this...damn thing??"

The first time i took out my rear seat, i found my lap belt. Mayb thats where yours is.

I went out to look at the backseat and discovered a hole where the seat bottom and back meet. Im guessing thats where the belt passes through, maybe its in there somewhere, but then again theres no buckle for it to go into, i only found one hole.

The fun-factor is absent though. What happened to good drivers? Now it's all about the car making the driver look skilled. The E34 rewards a skilled driver. My mom could look like Schumacher with all the driving aids they're cramming into the new ones. Also, has anyone actually heard the V10 start up? Haha, it sounds horrid at idle, especially during warm up. At full song it's not bad, but it's no S38. :)

Notice how the rear bench is basically an E34 bench ;)
