Finally got my skirts on last night. It's taking some getting used to, but I think I like it. I just have a few more small things to do to finally get it looking the way I want. Tell me what you think.

Color is a little bright right now. The bumpers looked the same way when I first put them on and a couple days in the sun toned them down a little. I'm going to keep an eye on them and if it doesn't blend in then I'll have him fix it.

You may want to update the signature to include your latest enhancement. Looks fabulous.

How much and where did you get them?

What's next?

...basically just painted sills and lower bumper panels - and the mirrors change the looks considerably. I don't think yours needs a wide grille transformation, but with mine I went all the way - I still think it looks pretty good for a Dec '88 build car.

I just updated my sig ;) I got the skirts from Peter on here, and then had them painted with the bumpers.

Next up is maintenance items. I just got a new o2 sensor, thrust arms w/750 bushings, and put the 9mm spring pads back in the front.

Then I have a mini-itx car-puter system that I had in my truck I'm going to install.

Don't know what I would do on the rear. I like how it looks, can't afford an M-tech rear bumper so it will probably stay as is.

Btw., that white rubber seals above the side skirts - are they available in white or did you paint them that way?

BTW, colored body panels and positve running changes are why I bought a 95. I think an e34 looks much smoother, especially in light colors, with painted side skirts and painted front and rear bumpers.

You can buy them from the dealer, but I don't think they come painted. Also these that are made for the skirts are hard plastic, not like the rubber that was on there. They are over $200 US for all 4 pieces.

Honestly, thanks for the deal on them Peter, glad to get them on the car.

Looks good, especially the front bar and paintwork.
I was contemplating an M-Tech bodykit for my Alpinewiess E34 but after looking at a few I kind of went cold on the idea.

I actually prefer the standard front bar painted with 540 brake ducts like yours. Speaking of which, the standard rear bar painted out white looks just fine. I reckon the M5/M-Tech rear bars, with the lower lip, give the E34 too much of a droopy large arse look.

As for side skirts well I'm not all that keen on them myself. I thought I was initially but in the end I think the E34 just doesn't need them. I detect from your post that you're not 100% certain yourself. Still it seems there's many on this forum that would almost give their eye teeth for some side skirts!. I'm just going to paint my sills white (as well as the front and rear bars) and fit some 540 ducts.

Really I don't think there's a great many sympathetic body mods you can really do to an E34 without risking compromising it's asthetics. I guess it's just testament to how right the design was in the first place.
However, your looks pretty damn fine!

BTW how are the Vogtlands riding?

I think the sideskirts need some contour to them like the e36 or something. Just ends up being a big slab down there. But after painting the rubber pieces and rockers on the touring I wanted to replace the rubber with hard paintable pieces so that meant going with the skirts. I really like them the more I look at them. One of those things that needed to grow on me a little I guess.

I think that's the problem for me. The M-Tech one's I saw up close just looked like they had been stuck on, which of course they had! I got really put off by body kits about 17 years ago when GM over here released a version of a popular car here (Commodore) called the Walkinshaw. It was the biggest, ugliest P.O.S. on the planet with more fibreglass than a Miami marina on a bad weather day.

http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/featurepics/0053.jpg

http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/images/articles/i0/0053_02mg.jpg

To top it off the finish was that bad, full of ripples and bumps and dips.
Since then anything that tries to say 'bodykit' better be pretty subtle and tasteful or I begin to think of a Walkinshaw!! Nuff said!!;)

I think that most of the highly "Flame surfaced" add ons look out of place on the e34. IMO, Side skirts on the e34 need to be smooth to reflect the smooth sides of the car.

As for looking added on. I disagree. They were factory installed on my car and are solid as a rock and fit perfectly. Do not know what the fit/look would be if they are added on later though.

Anyway, just my opinion.

Sorry about that Brodee,I didn't think they were in such bad shape. I guess I should've checked more closely. My apologies...but I must admit, you now have me ordering the brake ducts because I think they look awesome.......just when you think you're done, you get the urge to add a thing or two. Thanks for the real life display, now let me get onthe phone and order them intakes.....lol

They weren't that bad, they were good enough to install as-is, I just went ahead and had them sprayed since we were doing the bumpers anyway.

Thanks again!

Check out my new diamond schwarz T-stars. I know, it's dirty but my tourer is also my work truck as I remodel my new house.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ggil-tx/stars.jpg

I just bought a M-Tech body kit from Zaraska and was thinking about your paint scheme for it, but I thought I would add contrast with painting the skirts and the lower lips on the front and back bumpers the diamond schwarz color.

What does anyone think of that idea? A lot of Mtech schemes have the lower lips painted that way, but I haven't seen the skirts painted that way too....

thoughts? btw I think the darker stars are totally bitchin...love the new 17" meat..I got Yoko db's

Those wheels look great. I was thinking of doing that with the set of t-stars I had on my e30 but ended up selling them.

If it were me I'd paint it all silver to match the car, but it's just a matter of opinion. I really like the later silver e34's with the bottom all painted.

Elekta

I am going to paint the bumpers all silver, save the black rub strips fore and aft, but I've seen the very bottom lip in a contrast color, and for my tourer, it would be diamond schwarz to pick up the same in the stars.

my decision quandary remains with how to paint the skirts now

maybe I need an e34 queer eye for the straight guy to sort this out for me? :D

ps, I am looking for archive links for the fender side marker conversion (in 95's) as I like all side markers esp if they are clear. I am also looking for the LAD adjustment thread (it's supposed to be really easy) to eliminate the racing camber stance I have currently in the rear. As I will never race or drive at the limit, I'd like to be able to rotate my tires front to back as is suggested for my avs db yokos, and am not interested in reducing tread life or adding noise on my 8bill investment in tires.

cheers all, and a better sig pic will be coming soon as I detail the car and wheels

Yay! I love it Brodee... I'm going to copy you if you don't mind.

Looks like 1 alpine in the east, 1 in the middle, and 1 on the west. Perfect. :)

When you switch back to your 9mm sping pads, could you send me some measurements form ground to top fender please?

Sure, no problem! It will be a couple of weeks. I have to get the e30 back on it's wheels right now, have an auto-x on the 16th and I'll be in California next weekend so time is running out.

Both. Flying into Sacramento and driving a car back to Houston. Going to go through LA and then head over to Vegas.
