The only thing I've found out is that it was superseded 9/1/95, and the current replacement is 11 51 7 503 884. It's used in virtually all M50/M52/M54/S52 engines, if I'm reading it right. Someone want to verify?

Ryan, you can do this yourself now online...by using the parts cross-reference links (there's a couple of links thrown in around the site) at www.realoem.com/bmw ... see the link highligted in red and with arrows pointing at it in the pic below or if you have already entered info for a vehicle and you've clicked on the Part Search link...there is a link below the 2 dialog boxes (searching by "part #" or by "keyword") that says Part Vehicle Search...that link will allow you to enter an 11 digit or 7 digit BMW part number and it will cross reference it to all compatible BMW models...no need to have the BMW ETK CD...it's all online now: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partsearch.do?model=GJ81&mospid=47519

(or you can click the link on the home page if you already know the part #..see red arrows in pic below)

your info sounds correct...the original # Ryan posted...got no results...but the superceeded number you posted does..this is what I got by using the online parts cross reference: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=7+503+884&showus=on

You can click on the "Detail on E__" to get more details and link to the diagrams and part # index.

that's true...but if you have a "good" part number...you can cross reference it...like when I entered the "good #" you found for the waterpump. :D

thanks bill, i appreciate everyone's effort (since you are all likely at work or such). its supposed to be an m50 waterpump, but its unclear as to whether it might be an e36 specific part. im wondering if anything that much better came along between 9/95 and now in waterpump technology.

Try this site: http://www.bmwtoolkit.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=56 and when you get to the part number (In blue I think) click on it. It will give all the models the part fits.
