I'm getting some seeping from the edges of my oil pan, not alot, but enough to be a nusance. I'm planning to replace the gasket at the next oil change and wonder if anybody has any advice. It looks like a straightforward job, take out the bolts, drop the pan, insert new gasket, re-torque the bolts.

Are there any kinks in this job that I don't know about? Thanks in advance, responses here have been great.

We've talked about this subject a lot over the past few months. I think Infinity even did a writeup of sorts on it.

question: is it absolutely necessary to remove the exhaust pipe to change the oil pan gasket (http://www.carpartswholesale.com/cpw/oil_pan_gasket.html)?. Can I only use silicone sealant gasket?

Yes. Provided all surfaces are clean and dry (see tube for details)

I didn't remove the exhaust pipe or the subframe when I did mine. I unbolted the engine mounts and hoisted it up a few inches.
