I just switched from a 92' 525i to a 99' 528i and I love it... ;) but I had test drove a 95' 540 before and when I was backing up I noticed that both mirrors went down when the car was in reverse. Now I have the 99 528i only 1 goes down? Is their a fuse for it? Also if I switch the mirror control to the left side it goes back up to normal.

Any advice??
:)

Are you sure both mirrors dipped? I thought only the passenger side mirror should dip in reverse.

Not really sure about an E39, but I would have though the auto dip function would only apply to the passenger mirror.

It's supposed to do that, so you can over ride the auto dipping if you don't want it to work when reversing.

Was this a standard option? I tried it on my '89 535i today, and neither mirror moves when I put it in reverse, regardless of the position of the switch.

In the '95 540s, only the passenger side mirror went down in reverse. Not sure about the 535.

I think, from something i read, that this feature is included in the 535i with the memory seats. Dont quote me on it though.

I hate the auto dipping mirrors sometimes. Cause, im not always parallel parking...sometimes it 90* parking, then it dips, and I can't see jack. Not to mention, it gets stuck sometimes.

Yeah but you can switch it off if you don't want it to dip.
