ok. i own and e30 and an e34.

the e30 has a manual sunroof that both slides back into the rest of the roof, as well as pops up to make a little vent.

however, my e34 has an electrical sunroof. it slides back fine, but doesn't pop up. they are supposed to do that aren't they? the little picture on the switch seems to say so...it sorta looks like this: _ / _ (sorry for the terrible ascii representation)

could that be the switch that is broken?

TIA

Pull the switch back to fully open. Push the middle of the switch to pop the vent.

Yeah, on my 92 E34, I can just push the middle of the open/close button when the window is closed and the sunroof has 3 positions of vent openings.

With the sunroof fully closed, push the switch in, not forward or backward. See your owner's manual.
