Actually being truthfull here! I figure since everyone was complaining about their E34's gas consumption...thought I would put a different twist on it. I am married, live just outside Toronto (Canada)...the inlaws live 9 hours north from here and run a tourist resort so it is nice to go there!! Gets nasty in the winter time and we have a three year old daughter so the main vehicle to drive is a new style Jeep Grand Cherokee as it is very dangerous drive in the winter. Well we went last weekend (long weekend..Katrina) up north and took my 90 - 535i in hopes to save some money in gas as the Jeep at best gets 14.5L/100km and taking the 535i I averaged 10.5L/100km...so with Gas that week at $1.30/ltr here we saved $93 by taking the BMW...whoo hooo!! :p
It was funny as I had some time up there, so I clay-barred and waxed the 535i and it is a 5KM long rough gravel, washed out road to get into the resort that is mostly travelled only by 4X4...as I was washing the car and some customers drove in with their 4X4's and boats, they were all shocked to see a BMW there...lol...
So there you have it...I personally am happy with the E34's gas consumption..lol...could always be worse!!

Good story. I too am satisfied with what gas mileage I get. It's not what my previous car got, but my previous car was not a BMW!

and about 22 highwayThat's roughly what I get. These cars are horrible gas guzzlers if you drive them mosty around city (like me, for example).

my M5 uses ~ 9.5 to 10 litres / 100 kms when cruising at 130km/hr, which is quite good.

A performance chip will usually lower your fuel consumption, so now is the time to get one. :D

My city gas mileage went from 15 to 17mpg city and highway went from 24 to 23mpg when I installed the 3.91lsd to replace the stock 3.46.

Hmm. You know what I find interesting. In my i6, i get about 19-22 mpg freeway/city combined.

to think a 740 v8 could get the same mileage? low 19's. I wish I had a v8...i dont see no gas savings!!!
