Don't we all. But reality sets in real quick. As quick as that grin wears off.
Well Rock can also turbo-charge the 535 to get similar "punch" but there are lots of issues with reliability etc etc. Stock E34M5 is still the way to go. They are getting harder to find these days......

The 500E used to be my favorite car in those days (94s look the best with monochrome look)...most people haven't even heard of it let alone be able to identify it even if they saw one. Pure sleeper. So much effort was put into engineering with Porsche it seemed like a waste. (Reminds me of the overkill with the Cadillac Allante) Sad part is....today's garden variety E500 has just 20 less horsepower and accelerates quicker so the 500E has been shadowed as a "so what!" (MSRP ~$80k back then!) Especially with the E34 M5 out at that time that could kick it's butt anyday anyways. Nobody cares or wants a 500E anymore. Sad.

HARDLY!

i DISAGREE very wholeheartedly..

a motor like the m5's albeit NA is not exactly reliable....m motors were always tuned a wee bit more than normal and cost a billion more dollars

u're looking at 311 hp in a factory m5 at the crank subtract approx 20%
and u're looking at 249hp at the wheels...IF the car is in great shape

andrew has tcd's stage 1 kit, or had, and made 250 wheel hp at 5psi..
5 psi on a M30 is like tickling it =]

also i'll take the 535i's 3571lb curb weight over the m5's 3803lb stock curb weight ANY day

I'll have to admit I like those old E500's as well. They were all automatic, too, I think. Like the 300E body but with slightly flared wheel wells, nice! Very rare to find one now, too. They're almost never for sale around here.
