is this really the case...

i noticed that one of my low beam lights is not working...
however, there was no warning on the dash.

i removed it so that i can show it to the supply shop
on the way there. the low beam warning wouldnt stop
displaying itself on the dash

is the bulb really popped or something else. or the sensor
merely indicates whether or not the bulb is attached not
knowing whether it is good or bad.

thanks!

The low beam warning should definitely display if the bulb is removed, that is nothing strange. In most cases it should display if the bulb was in and broken as well. It is also possible you have an issue with your LKM (http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/maintenance/electrical/LKM.htm) that was my problem last time one of my low beams stopped working.

Your element might still be good... very dim light... while you lost the halogen gas... in this case, LKM still see okay bulb. Basically you got continuity.
