I tried posting this before, but then I could never find it again so I apologize if someone has seen it.
My question is dash lights on my instrument panel.

I changed them in my 94 525i easily by sliding the panel out from the side of the steering wheel. This was no problem, a bit of a pain in the ass, but it worked.

I have another car, 93, 525i, and need to change the lights. I searched the archives to find out what kind of bulbs I need and now I see several emails telling me absolutely do not do that if I have an airbag and to remove the steering wheel.

I don't feel confortable removing the steering wheel! Is it absolutely necessary? I mean, I didn't do that before? Is it hard to remove the steering wheel and replacing the airbags?

The write up shows an early car without the telescoping wheel. Is there any need to remove the steering wheel on the later models to get the cluster out or can you just pull the wheel away from the dash?
