Been on this site for a few months and have been loooking at rims and suspension for a while. I'd really like OEM rims but i just dont have the money... i'm really contemplating buying a set of ebay replica rims and i really wanted to know if it would be a waste of money or if they'd break... or maybe they'd work out alright.. check them out for me....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-18-Wheels-Rims-BBS-Style-E34-E39-E38-Staggered_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43958QQitemZ7 992315885QQrdZ1

Thanks,
Micah

the trade of with non oem rims is that generaly replicas are heavier and weaker than the genuine article.Plenty of people here run non standrd rims.If you live in an area with bad roads you will almost certainly bend a rim or two, thus setting yourself up for a front end shimmyYou are pushing the envelope for an e34 by choosing an 18 inch rim
You will need a hubcentric ring if the wheels are suitable for an e39.They look a nice wheel tho

I drive on the horrible Houston roads and have replica 18" rims on both my e34's. I haven't had any issues with them. If you are really worried about benidng them get some 17's instead, that way you'll have a little more tire protecting you.

The ironic thing is the only wheels I have ever bent were the factory OEM 16" wheels on my e36 convertible. I had them in the shop 3 times getting straightened.

Keep your eyes peeled for some s/h M-System II's aka 'Throwing Stars'.
You may be lucky enough to find a set for around $800-$1200 USD on Ebay.

If you do the math they may workout no more expensive than a set of 18" replicas.

1. They are 17" rims which mean your tyre costs will be less. (around $200 a set)
2. They will have better resale as they have already depreciated meaning you can easily get your money back if you sell them later on.
Buy them at $1000.00 and sell them for at least the same.
Buy replicas for $600.00 and you will be lucky to get even $400.00 back in twelve months.
3. They are much lighter & stronger than replicas
4. They will ride better than 18" wheels.
5. Assuming they came off an E34 they will be the correct offset (20mm)
6. They look good on my Alpinweiss E34 :)

hmm... fair enough. The thing is, im 18 going into my senior year and im tired of working this summer and shooting to get some rims. I think i'm just going to do it. i have around 800 and it should work out to 650 for the rims. tires will be...????..400?? i'll have to look into it.
Thanks,
Micah

I think they look pretty cool. I want to go staggered also, but I won't go larger than 17".

Why not larger than 17"? I think e34's look clean with 18"s and brodee says that the ride difference is insignificant. Staggered is so nice looking too. Does anyone know the spec's for the tire sizes i would need and how much they might cost (also where i can find them for the cheapest)
Thanks,
Micah

Personal preference (I'm not 18 any more). Cost of Tires. I just like more width on my sidewalls.

18" rubber is not cheap. Good tires (and who wants to buy crap to begin with) cost $100+/each. Tirerack.com's your best bet.

C'mon now...I'd take that $800 and buy booze and a trip to the beach for me and my girlfriend -- now that's what memories are made of! (haha)

I like my 16s, sure im old and dont push the car around corners runnin against Benzes zippin 125mph down I-75 checkin to see who lets off the peddle first...I just like the ride and comfort of knowing I wont bend a rim if I hit a big hole.

Have a look at these.............

e-bay auction that is in your price range, plus ok tires w/ 50% tread left. Many on this board consider this wheel beautiful on an E34. I don't know anything about the seller, but was just looking as they say....

i have replica 18s, i've bent one slightly but i was doing something stupid so it was to be expected

definately go for 17s though, i think they look better and the ride on 18s is BUMPY! plus the cost of rubber is a joke
