View Full Version : 540I 6speed front seat recline problems

The problem is that both of my front seat backs have twisted outward due to what I believe is a stripped plastic gear (green in color) in the recline gear drives that allow the seat back to be adjusted. I have had a little success in getting one of the seats to stay put by reindexing the gear, but the other is gear is B.E.R. Does anyone know if there are replacement gears or gear boxes available? This is not the same seat assembly available in the automatic models.

Thank you for your reply.

Has the gearbox for both sides up for bid all time time.

As of two days ago there were four gearboxes for sale. Do a search on "e34" or "e34 parts". You'll have to wade through several pages but the gearboxes are there.

Good Luck!

Thanks Ashley,

I have seen these on eBay a few times; however, I am not sure if they will go into the seat used for the 540I 6 Speed manual. These seats are different than in most e34's and they are the same seat used with the M/5. Please let me know if they are the same unit.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bob,

I've been looking for a while on eBay and always run across some used items from Vinesparts. I did today though locate what I believe is a new after-market gear assembly which I will give it a try for the price being asked.

Thanks,

Bill
