I am planning on upgrade the brakes on my 89 535, I have read up and found that I could go with E31 (8 series) fronts and E34 540 rears. It seems pretty easy to find the 540 rears but the e31 fronts are hard to get and from what I gather, rather expensive. The other option for the front would be the e32 740/750. I know how much force the 8 series fronts produce but dont know what the e32 brakes make. I can get everything for $700 (calipers, rotors, pads) for the e32/e34 setup. Should I wait around and find the 8 series fronts or if I am just using the car as a daily driver should I not spend the extra money?

Read up on how you can upset the braking balance before juming into something that could be dangerous on the highway.

I have the plain old stock brakes and havent had any problems whatsoever...I wont do the upgrade.

If I upgrade both the front and rear brakes to Euro M5 ones, would I upset brake balance?

After switching to 17" wheels I planned to add brake ducts and switch to larger brakes, and the Euro M5 was the most logical choice.

"The '95 Euro M5 brakes generate 646 LB-ft front and 336 LB-ft rear, giving a bias of 66:34. Everyone raves about this setup, which is interesting as the front brakes actually generate LESS torque than the earlier E34 M5 (or the 540i, for that matter)! Chances are that this perception of awesome brakes has more to do with the better balance front-to-rear than the massive cooling capability, which only comes into play when you're driving the piss out of the car and the brakes are generating many kilowatts of heat. Unless you go to the track, you'll never encounter that aspect of their performance."
