I like the after more. I guess cuz U.S. has tiny licence plates :) In europe, licence plate is almost twice as wide. Btw., have you considered the reflective one (that matches the color of your brake lights)?

Never really considered the different colors. I think it takes away from the class factor of these cars.

White cars cannot be classy, anyway :) If I wanted a classy executive car, I would have taken a black E38 :)

It's a european part I special ordered from the local dealer. eBay has been running some at twice the price. I just needed to drill 4 holes to accomodate the US plate.

Ralph What is that emblem on the black bumper trim? Please tell me it is not a AAA sticker.

Indeed. I just watched one go on eBay for over $100. I can get these for $55 all day long. Good for some laughs, at least...

Maybe I'll have to start offering them on eBay now and then. :)

Are the u.s. ones and euro ones different?

~I think I'm thinking of the m5 filler plate vs what was posted.

They're different; the US M5 filler plate has the width for a US plate, the euro one a euro plate. Otherwise, they're the same.

Yeah it is. That one portion of the bumper molding had an almost impossible to get of parking sticker from the PO. I had that handy and couldn't find any other sticker, so I put it on till I replace or repair the piece.

I guess I got the european one. I couldn't find the part number for the US plate one. I thought the eBay one's were aftermarket.

Technically they're both M5 parts; yours is from a US M5 though, yes.

The only aftermarket plate trim pieces like this I've seen are from Hella; They match the inner tail light housings (either in the normal or smoked versions). I've been after that piece for some time. However, the black pieces on eBay are original BMW parts (as far as I know), US part # 51-13-2-230-867

Actualyy I might have got the wrong part (51132230430). I probably should have got 5113220867. Mine is the European M5, but it worked out.

I've been thinking about getting this filler panel too. But how does it attach to the car, glue? Do I need something else besides the panel itself, screws or clips?

screws.

Kind of sandwiched on.

The ///M5 trim piece would look a lot better with a flush lock surround in matching black--that is how the real M5 piece is--I can see the white paint around your lock button in your pic--that might be a seperate orderable part? Just something to think about. Otherwise, I like the black better than the white.

Could that be number 19 in this pic?

Gotta order one of those too.

Edit: Hmm, what about the license plate lights, won't this cover them up?

You need to replace the lock itself too in order to use the black rubber that goes around the lick to "seal" the M5 trim panel. You can probably swap the tumblers so you don't need to use an extra key. Too much hassel for what its worth IMHO.

It doesn't cover the license plate lights.

Do you need to replace the lock or just remove and re-install it?
