Yesterday we changed the distributor caps on my friend's 750iL. The caps have never been replaced since 1992. Engine was only running a little bit rough.
But have a look on the last pics. They are from my Highline from 1990. I wonder how the engine was still running with these caps. Have not yet driven the car, as still under restauration for a long time.
The only fault code I got was oxy sensor with the PEAKE. Revving up was nor problem at all. These engines are real tough.
Will replace them of course in these days along with other parts. Have to get the from Autohausaz, as one costs here in Japan > $ 200.

if run long enough like it will toast the coil due to the huge voltage needed to jump the gap without the button, people love to bitch about how much the tune up costs on these cars but i regularly see caps and wires last 200k miles, long live the solid core ignition wire :D

Haha...My car is still on it's original cap and rotor (made in 1987 or something like that) -- 227k+ and it's in fine condition. Pulled the cap a few weeks ago to clean the points.

caps actually dont look bad but that builtup of soot means that serious ionization<-? was occuring which can cause crossfires without carbon tracking.

Bill R...WTF is all that jizz in there?

ya didn't see the missing center button on the one 750 cap? and the snot looks like melted rotor on the pussy
