Help!

Hey Guys,

Earlier this week I posted that my 525 had a "no go" situation. Where I pressed on the gas (1/2 or more) and it shuttered with a corresponding loss of power. It was disgnosed as a misfire and I was told to change the valve cover gasket and/or a coilpack.

I just finished changing the gasket and the problem is still there (albeit not as pronunced). So. I've got three questions...

1) Does the gasket need a break-in time before it's fully sealed?

2) How do I test to see which coil pack needs to be replaced?

3) Could this be a fuel filter gumming up?

I will post pics later after I get this fixed and have taken a nice shower.

1) Nope, should be fully sealed already provided you touqued it down correctly.

2) You can check for candy, or Bentley has a way to test the coils***. However I will add the disclaimer that I did both of those and my coils where "good" via the tests but I still had a bad one. You can try marking the coils then pulling the plugs to see what one(s) look bad. (Did you change you plugs?) When you pulled it apart, what plug wells had oil in them.. because those are the first ones to suspect.

Another quick way is to test off a know good car.

Bentley calles for 89 ft-in (7.34 ft-lbs) I torqued to 7 and 1/2.

I didn't pull the plugs but did change them about 1500k ago.

Whit mentioned "candy" on the coils. What is "Candy"?
