everyone seems to think that stainless steel is the best metal available for a multitude of situations, yes it is shiny when polished and can go a beautiful honey color when it gets a little heat, dont over heat it though or you will end up with this,,,,

looks like a liner/duct for a burner or the remains of a failed jet experament

fair guess. was part of a gas burner. this is extreeme but i have done damage with more 'moderate' conditions.
