I was getting a clunking sound and I checked the mounts today, they where broken inside and when I took the transmission crossmember off they literally fell apart. However part of the trans mount is still there. Its very hard to get to nut 3, the exhaust is still on and the car is on ramps. I haven't taken off the exhaust yet from the manifold pipes to the cat converter.

I hate working on cars when nothing is going right for me. Here's some obligatory pics

is ot same box as 540, '93. did mine last week. left exhaaust on but a bitch until i figured how,. r u talking about the top nut, which would be between the box and the mount.? if so i used a spanner and came from the opisite side of the car to get at it.i also moved the car back about 1 inch so as t o move the disk abit around to clear those sive 21 nuts. wasnt easy but was okm once i got to it.i reckon u can do it without moving the pipes, i did.open ended and ring spanner was good ,no10 i think or half". youll only get quarter turns at best but its all u need to crack it.

thanks matt. I can't crack the nut yet, i'm tying open spanners, there all 13mm nuts. you can see 1 old transmission mount in the pic, ther eboth the same conidtion though. Theres no thread up the top of the trans mount, it's still on the car, attached with the nut.

I removed my auto trans mounts. Hoping to find part number 2, thats what realoem says for my car.

I finally manage to remove the auto trans mounts and I have these instead.

That is read off the part number. You can notice the differences in the mounts, the older mount is about 3/4" shorter, i cannot put the new mounts into my car, becasue the matching holes do not align properly. its about 3/4" too tall.

ARGH. i'll have to walk for the next few days.

....cnt of a job eh.

"cnt"?... oh you mean "Crappy Nut Task"! :p

both. there's not much room under there. It will just mean another BMA order, want anything?

yeh, thems the ones, them nuts eh. also when i pit it back together, i found that each side of the box supported a mount that held the exhuast in place. these had been stretched forward from lifting the box with a jack, maybe just have a little look when ur putting it back too see if they are straight and not stretched forward.then drink much beer.and more beer and talk about what a crappy nut task of a job, idid.

both. there's not much room under there. It will just mean another BMA order, want anything?Hey Kriss, any luck w those mounts yet? I just got mine (Part #24711131663) and they look exactly the same as the ones you mention in this post- they have the little aluminium hat making them too big for your car.

Was going to get under the car this w/e but got hijacked on other duties... had no hope of going on that DTM cruise u mentioned either :(
Still at least the car runs (drive-shaft still making an 'interesting noise', I just relaxed a little more over it). I reckon I can get those wretched washers off the engine pipe studs though- have just the thing for it... ;) once that is done out comes the shaft and on goes the new bearing, re-lubing of the two universals and (hopefully) on got the new tranny mounts... was thinking of taking a look next weekend, but how did you go - are you sure the mounts are wrong? I reckon my car is going to be the same as yours.

Interestingly using RealOEM to do a lookup on Part 24711131663 (RUBBER MOUNTING) matches return on the following e34 535s:

E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, AUTO (HD21) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, RHD , AUTO (HD22) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, MANUAL (HD11) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, RHD , MANUAL (HD12) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, U.S., AUTO (HD23) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, U.S., MANUAL (HD13) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, AUTO (HD21) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, RHD , AUTO (HD22) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, MANUAL (HD11) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION
E34 535i SEDAN, M30, Euro, RHD , MANUAL (HD12) : GEARBOX SUSPENSION

Is the online ETK wrong for our cars? I selected EURO build RHD 535i 8/88 build and got the same part number you did... :) GP
