Hi Guys, this is the problem:

525 M50 (year: 1990) engine with an intermittent starter motor problem. When the outside temp is high and I've switched off the engine for a while the starter motor seems to stick. I think it's due to the heat soak within the engine causing the solenoid to lock up. A few deft thumps with a Manchester-Screwdriver (hammer for out Americal cousins) gets it going again.

I've cleaned up the battery terminals and had a go at the solenoid terminals but it hasn't made any difference so it's time to pull the starter. Can this be done with the inlet manifole in place? If not what gaskets do I need for the manifold? Is it simply a matter of unbolting the manifold it from the head or is it more difficult than this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

This is a typical symptom of starter failure. It is warning you that it will ultimately fail. Time to bring it in for a rebuild.
Most starter/alternator shops will charge ~$65 to $80.
