What are the pittman arms or dogbones for?

Mine are def bad. They are squished together and they are all completely cracked and worn. However my car drives fine and I don't really notice any problem with it. It does tend to pull left a bit even after an alignment. What do these things do and why should I replace them?

The car seemed to track a bit better, leaned a bit less in the turns and seems to squat and dive less. Good fix.
