Hi Everyone,

I have a 1994 530i with the full OBC and standard cassette/radio.

The radio displays channel info on the check control display in the instrument cluster - which is cool. However, I would like to upgrade the stereo to an in-dash CD/MP3 player.

Does anyone know of any makes/models of stereo that will continue to work with the OBC/Check Control display to show channel info, or track number etc?

Many thanks and regards,

Ian

Wow, your radio info displays on the check cotrol display. Only my OBC does that. You'll probably lose that ability with that type of change.

Ya, what years and models would do this? This is the second time I've seen it mentioned and couldn't find anything about it.

Higher models (530 and 540) most commonly and after MY 1994.
A few late model 525s had it, too.

I am unaware of any aftermarket unit that will still function in that way.

if in radio mode, the cd number and track if in CD mode and Tape 1 or 2 if in tape mode. I believe it is a feature of original BMW radios, as they communicate trough the serial buss with the cluster

your channel and cd changer display won't work anymore with a non-bmw radio. your new radio has no compatible output canal for the instrument cluster.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the input.

I decided to give up this wonderful feature by purchasing a Kenwood KDCMP4029G CD MP3 Player for just AU$269 from www.ryda.com.au - stunning superb value!! A truly excellent stereo that looks simply fantastic in the dash of my 530i...
