View Full Version : Rear end (of the car) is scraping

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that the rear end of my 1989 E34 (183K miles) has been scraping the ground. It happens when I go through a dip in the road, if there are people in the back seat and I accelerate around a corner, etc.

This would seem to be some sort of rear suspension problem. Has anyone had similar problems in the past?

I'm getting close to a service interval, so I was going to ask them to check it out, but figured I'd ask here as well.

Thanks,

Norman

has the car been lowered?

No.

I've noticed that the rear wheels sit farther up into the wheel well than the front wheels. It's been like this for quite some time, and I figured that's how it was designed. I haven't paid close enough attention to other vehicles or pictures to tell if it's actually the norm.

Either the potholes are getting real bad or you need a new suspension...

Most likely new shocks and its possible you have a cracked spring.

Any chance of a pic of your car, from 1 side? We might be able to see if your car's unusually low.

Cheers,
