Hello there,
I need to know if anyone knows definitely that the tail lights used for 525 sedans can be used for the 525touring interchangeably. Or are the tail lights for the touring wagon it's own type? I have a 93 525 touring and would like to install the red/white tail lights on my wagon.
thanks, Lyndon :)

I believe they are different.

Go to realoem.com and check the part numbers for the Touring and the Sedan.

I know there's a guy on here with a silver 530iT who was able to make his own clear indicators for the rear by sawing off the amber part and gluing on a clear. How exactly he did it, I do not know. There was a writeup somewhere if IIRC.

I have both cars E34 sedan and E34 Touring. The rear lights are different in size and curves. Cannot interchange for sure.

Only way to change color is to use translucent spray to make it matte black. But I don't know how long that will last. Don't think there is a way to make it clears!. Short of custom remoulding one yourself!.

I just tired this link this morning, but now it appears to be dead. It describes a mod of the taillights involving cutting off the amber part and replacing it with a clear lens. I thought the lens was a bit expensive for a piece of plastic.

If you have a Bentley manual, look at the profiles of the sedan and touring next to each other. Taillights are totally different.

That is the only aftermarket taillight I have been able to find and would be very interested if there are others.

It looks like the other site is back up now. The clear lenses are $94 a set plus shipping from Sweden. Oh, and you have to cut your existing (and very expensive) taillights apart.

not a cheap mod. You need a spare pair of buckets to start, because it takes more than a weekend to do.

dremel tool
retractable knife with many blades
big clamps
vise to hold bucket
small files
orbital sanders (one 4x8 to form new clear and one mouse sander to fine tune bucket
thick crazy glue
black testors paint
liquid tint
clear silicone sealant

a lot of patience

It's about $300 mod depending on how much you get the spare pair of blinker buckets for. I've kept all my amber stuff to go back to oem if I ever see the need, but I love this clear look, and think it's worth every penny....but then I think having two more sidemarkers (like the1995 e34's) would be fun too....my next clear addition. I know there's a write up on that from the old board

I know I have a full write up in the archives, but alas no time to look it up.

cheers

the liquid tint placed on the inside, ever so minimally, makes this clear conversion look ten times better than the one posted on radicast's site. The beauty here is that you put the tint on the inside before you glue the clears in
