That thing almost looked like an automatic - The tail didn't appear to rise like it was a manual trans car. Also to get that kind of time out of a turbo you have to keep it spooled up and that is tough to do in a manual trans car.

Not often you see a parachute on the back of an e34 !!

something i've always wondered is how do they shift gears
in those 4 second 1/4mile runs

that run sounded like he had a cvt tranny =] held 1 gear at high
revs the whole way through heheh

with an auto trans and a high stall converter the revs stay within 1-1500 rpms which is hard to hear, watch the car lunge and you can see 3 shift points.

(Im still waiting for it to download--- Sh!t dial-up!!)

When they drag it, they install a 2sp auto. When it circuit races, it gets a 5sp manual.

the car has a straight cut gearbox for circuits and he uses a TH400 reverse shift for the strip.

a 2 spd auto? is that what the pro's use when they have 4 sec passes?

I can't seem to watch this. Both Quicktime and WMP refuse to let me see it. Am I doing something wrong? I think my 'puter hates me.

The top-fuel 4 second cars don't shift. They use a slipping clutch design that limits power to the diff.

Same here, but the computer I'm on doesn't really have any codecs installed, so I'm sure that's the problem. I get to look at a nice cloudy sunset, and listen to the cars take off.

Wow, this E34 kicks ass. By the way the white car is a 240sx (or Nissan Silvia), personally I like the older models better, from 94 down. Newer ones are much heavier:) By the way is it possible to disengage the supercharger for regular daily driving, and then turn it on back when you need it? Like a clutch or something.

2 shifts I heared .... cuz it seems a german specs its tranny shifts at 80Km/h to the 2nd and the second shifts to the 3rd at 140km/h. but I never seen a BMW takes off that fast .... only one with 1200HP smoked a supra ... seen it in one thread before here.
