I have it on my hard drive... but since I upgraded to WinXP, it won't play on the media player. Microsoft is such a bunch of dorks!!! Keeping me from my M3 video... the nerve!

Try this link:

It was an upgrade and the disk was already NTFS... so yes.

I'll be getting a new computer in a week so I'm not too eager to mess around with this old boat anchor, but I'll bet the new machine (dell dual proc) will have the same problem. Spent a week, eh? maybe I can just download the old version of media player. Any advice?

there are a few issues with NTFS and XP...but if it worked before it should work again. I had to reload EVERY program I had for it to work right so from that standpoint maybe completly remove your media player and then download a new one? Should work then.

LOL, you want to talk about computers?

Lets see.. this morning come in... have a server down in Skillman NJ (I am based in Cleveland) come to find out that the server hasn't been backed up.. and it has important data on it....

As for why the video doesn't play.. it should... make sure you download the complete XP SP2 (about 275 megs) and install that instead of doing the lame end user upgrade from windows update.

huh huh huh.... :D

wmv's won't play on windows xp?

i found a PIII 500 on the side of the road, working of course.
my maxtor HDD died a couple of days ago. i slapped win2k on it in 30 mins so i could get back on teh intar-web. it has windows media player 6 ( 1999 windows 2000 media player) so technically it shouldn't play jack of new formats. i put k-lite codec pack on it, and now it'll play everything (on the ver 6, i was suprised what such an old program could play if supplied with codecs. if you google free k-lite codec pack and download it it might help you in future jeff.

I just tested the video... about 3 times in a row on my XP laptop (Just to make sure :-) )... works fine in Windows Media Player... do you get a codec error message or something?

No error - just a blank client window in the media player. Sound is still there though. Porn doesn't play either... You know, just checking different file types... :)

playing sound without pic is also a symptom of a missing codec. here's a known virus free copy of the program i mentioned.

try it, i'd bet it fixes things.

Microsoft Media Player isn't so bad... and this is coming from a Microsoft Engineer :)

Download the K-Lite Standard Codec pack. Install. Use Media Player Classic. All done!

* Microsoft nor it's employees do not endorse or otherwise recommend anything 3rd party above :D

No offense intended - I know there are plenty of wicked-smart engineers at MS. Perhaps I should have said, "the project manager who decided it was acceptable to have an out-of-the-box Media player that had *LESS* functionality than the previous version is a dork." :) :)

It's kind of a bummer when you upgrade and things that used to work are now broken.

I'll try the codec pack on the new computer...

Thanks,

Robin

Some advice on PCs, NEVER EVER EVER BUY A DELL, NEVER!!!!

I've always had good experiences with Dell machines. I buy the refurbs (so far 3 laptops and 1 desktop) w/3 or 4 year warrantees, and so far have only had 1 mouse pad on a laptop go fishy. Have you had hardware or customer service probs?
