I want to replace the autotrans gearbox mounts. If I unbolt the "gearbox suspension", the gearbox crossmember - do I need to support the gearbox with the jackstand?

I'm assuming it's okay to replace the mounts and not have the crossmember without the gearbox supported. I just want to make sure.

I wouldn't remove the crossmember without a floor jack under the trans pan. The jack will let you lower the trans at a controlled rate.
