My '92 535i has been experiencing intermittent "brake light" and "tail light" warnings (one said "brake light +" which I think may refer to the center rear brake light)
These come and go, all bulbs appear to be fine. I pulled out my LKM, inspected it, and visually it looked to be ok, but then I'm not exactly sure what I expected to see.
I have found rebuilt and updated LKM units on Ebay for around $100 with a warranty, but before buying one, I was hoping to get a bit of feedback from this post to see if the consensus is for the LKM or other.
Called BavAuto, they immediately suggested a new LKM ($275+)

Appreciate any replies-

thank you

What about the wiring that runs along the left trunk lid arm? Years of opening & closing the lid will fray it. Best check it out prior to sinking any money into it. Then, check the brake switch by setting cruise while the check control is displaying said messages (hopefully on a more or less deserted road). A working brake switch will deactivate the cruise when applying the brake. (if it doesn't, just turn it off with the paddle).

and sockets to make sure that they are clean. Plugs, brake light swith etc.

The LKM problems usually show up in the head lights first, so check out the brake light system before dropping $100.00 on an LKM.

check light assembly (wrong size )bulb burns bulb insert casuse it to melt a lil that triggers the infamous brake lt circuit beemer bulbs(stock) ones are smaller than aftermarket which cause the bulb seat to melt
