I am new to e34s but not new to bimmers. I have owned a few e30s to date and I have a question about a car that I might be buying from a friend in the near future.

The car in question is a 92 e34 525iT. The dual sunroofs are a little tricky and they were left slightly open one time. It rained and water got into the car affecting the central locks and the windows and supposedly got underneath the d.side rear seat.

When the battery is connected without the key in the ignition or the car running, the plug behind the cluster nearest to the temp. gauges starts to burn. The wire "sheaths" on at least 4 wires have melted thus exposing the wires and causing them to touch. This plug is brown in color and is part of the main harness.

I am looking to get a used cluster and try replace the plug with a used one as it's not really burned through the whole plug harness and some creative splicing should help.

Can anyone offer any tips on how to further diagnose this issue?
Is this plug related to the OBC?
Will the car start without the plug plugged in?
Can these dual sunroofs only be reset/re-aligned by BMW dealers?

TIA
