Looking through the archieves and on the ETM - I see that my 90 535i has a 4 wire o2 sensor. If I go the $39 Ford 5.0 sensor, which is 3 wire - how is it wired up ? Looks like the wires colors on the factory harness are yellow + black + green/blue + green/violet.

Use the bosch 13275, it's the exact same thing as the stock O2 sensor. 4 wire, etc. It's like $40 or something. I used it on my e30, and it worked flawless, and I would definitely use it on my e34.

Do you know the oem application? Most of the knuckleheds working behind the counter need an application to look anything up - they just can't figure that part number thing right over the counter.

so go the save way, use Bosch or Walker and with the connector instead of the one with 4 wires. Also note that there are different ones, our old cars (at least my E32) has only one at the front of the cat, while newer cars have 2 , one in front, one in rear.

Autozone has Bosch 15727 Universal O2 in stock at the store for $60... I find Walker O2 sensor to be cheaper... check with mom&pop part store for Walker brand. I verified the part number for 90 535 with manual twice... I don't know how the other guy came up with different number... maybe auto or 525i.

It's to a chrysler sebring or something... just tell them the number and if they ask for the car, tell them you're picking it up for a friend and you aren't sure, but you know that's the right #

Go with this O2 sensor, don't waste your money for the 15727 that's $20+ more expensive.

Is there a wiring schematic - 4 wire to the BMW wiring harness ?

4 wires - there are 3 colors - there are two gray (or white? can't remember) wires, and they are both the same so it really doesn't make a difference which wire those two go to, but the two unlike colors are important.
