View Full Version : New Brake Pads and Moaning Sound

Hello

I've got a quick question regarding some new Mintex brake Pads that I just installed on my '90 535i.

A few days ago, I got the "Brake Linings" error message so I proceeded to change the rear pads. (They indeed were worn.) I coated the back sides of the pads with anti-squeal compound and compressed the brake pistons.

The brakes seem to be stopping the car well, but I hear a hum / moaning / dragging sound comming from the rear of the car as I apply the brakes (slowing the car from ~20 mph to 0.) I don't think I notice the sound at higher speeds, but I have not driven the car much yet.

Is it possible that the new pads need to be "broken in" or does it sound like something is installed incorrectly? The brake rotors appeared to be in good shape, and as I metioned before, the brakes are definetely working. I do not feel any pulling to the left or right when using the brakes nor do I sense any grinding.

Thanks for your help
Andrew
