I think I'm seriously serious this time. It's not a question of if, but when.

I'm going to probably take my time and I thought I would ask here first to see if there are any leads on someone who would provide a good home for it.

If you know of someone who may be seriously interested, I'd appreciate any leads. I'll take out a classified in the Roundel in a month or so.

You know every single one of us would LOVE to buy your car... but can is a different issue considering no respectable bank would give a loan for a 11yr old wagon LOL... If I had the spare $20k or so no brainer... wonder if my mortgage refi people would mind me using my Equity line to buy this vs. payin off debt.... HAHHAHAHHAH

I'd go for it if I wasn't already saving up for the 545ixT in 06. Seeing as your E34M5T is worth about $60k all in, I will hope to keep my E34iT and take a trip to Germany next year and buy a 2006 US spec version over there and drive it around the Hinterland before shipping it home....spend about the same and get a nice trip in with the family to boot.

Sorry to hear about this excellent dream come true not lasting at least 100k more miles for you. Your car should be sold at a professional auction.

best to you Matt

Johntee,
My wife has a '99 540iT, and they are very, very different cars in some respects. A lot depends on what you want the car to do and how you are going to drive it.

The 540iT is a huge punch of torque down low, where as the M5T is a Wind-it-up until it screams proposition. The 540iT with the sport package can do some serious handling, but it's much more composed in normal driving, whereas the M5T always lets you know it wants on the track.

The 540iT only comes with the 5-speed steptronic, which in sport mode, does a very good job. You can stomp on it from the word go. The M5T of course, is a shift it yourself, and you need to let the engine warm up fully before going over 3500-4000 RPMs, (and the tranny is slight bit clunky when dead cold).

The E34 is.. well, you know, an E34. The E39 has more of the little luxury touches.
Styling is in the eye of the beholder.

I think it weighs around 3700-3800 lbs. I don’t have the exact specs handy. Around 150 lbs heavier than a sedan I believe.

I am looking for $35K, which is not out of line given other Euro M5's that have resold in the USA. Considering the condition, new EDC, and other upgrades, I could ask more, but I think that's a good price.

FWIW, I've spent almost $70K on it, and to import a "new" on would cost you about $16-17K in addition to the purchase price. And that does not include any maintainence.

I didn't know you can get a US Spec version of model BMW NA isn't bring over here (last I heard only the 525ixT and 530ixT are coming over). I wonder if it will be the 550ixT by then (with the new 4.6L engine).

You have me wondering if I should consider submitting it to one of the bigger annual auctions. Hmm...

If they ever do greenlight an E60 M5T, I may just have to do it. 500hp... Mmmm...

True. Last time I was at KMS, Brett had an avus blue euro e34 M5 in there for sale...owner was/is asking ~ 25k.

Beautiful car...nothing like a touring e34 -- NOTHING :) I'd buy it in a second if I had the cash and the need to cart stuff around.

best, whit

Just follow along with me here........

Raffle it off here.

US$100/ticket.
A minimum 350 tickets sold.
A maximum 400 tickets sold.
Shipping, delivery, taxes, etc. all responsibility of winner.
yadda-yadda-yadda..........

With those kind of odds, I might get talked into 5 or 10 tickets.............as I suspect more than a few of us here might do also. But it only takes ONE to win!

Of course it's easy for me to say. Not my car. Not my doing the auction. Not me responsible for all the details. Just me wishing..................... ;)

But it WOULD be fun!
:D

Just to be different, i'd do it..

but there's a few things I don't know about...

Administration of the raffle: How are payments held in case not enough are sold? Who verifys tha the drawing was completly fair? Are there any tax gotchas for seller or buyer? (since this for profit as opposed to so called 'non-profits').

Could I sell enough tickets? Set up a real good web site, and take a classified out in Autoweek?

Pretty fun to think about.

Only 3 exterior pics on their web site. Not much to go on.

Some quick observations:

Seems a bit more modifed than mine (I've tried to keep mine stock correct in most places).

* The 18" M-Parallels weren't original on a 93 (17" throwing stars were)
* The wide grill wasn't original. (only 95 M5s have wide grill from factory).
* The EDC III is gone, unable to comment on the goodness or badness of the Koni setup.
* The Nurburgring suspension was optional on 93's. Unclear if this car has it.
* "Sport Exhaust" is proabaly Supersprint or Remus
* Auro Mirrors are from M3, they differ slightly from the "correct" M5 mirrors on 95 M5s

Other obvious differences vs. my M5T:

* Brakes are 315mm/300mm disks vs 345 floating rotors/328mm disks on 95
* 5-speed manual vs 6-speed manual
* Mine has over 53,000 fewer miles
* This one (the 93) has a sat-nav system.
* 209 '93 models made, vs 119 1995 model year M5 tourings.

If you want it in the USA, it will still cost $15K to $17K (and take 6-12 months) before all is done.
(Federalization for EPA/DOT, shipping, customs, taxes, misc fees)

Matt, it boggles my mind why you'd go through all the trouble to get this car then sell it. :( It makes me kinda sad.

Is everything ok man?

Let's see, afford the car - maybe. But then I'd have to pay for the divorce that would surely follow. Matt I've been jealous of that ride since I found this site some years ago. When I'm asked to describe my dream car, I show them a picture of yours!

Wish I could do it...

Matt - I have to bow out. It is a museum piece that belongs in a collection. But too rich for me. You will certainly get your asking for such a fine piece of machinery. Please make sure that it goes to a good and well deserving home. JT

He would love me for saying so, but who here doesn't trust Bill? Have some lawyer draw up a suitably CYA-ed bit of the language for the ticket, Bill opens an escrow account for the deposits, tickets are sold until a magic number is reached that will cover the cost of the car plus a) banking fees, b) legal time, c) Bill's time, and d) the selection of a third party for the drawing and videography of same. Unfortunately, the lawyer involved, and anyone else involved, like Bill, would be excluded from the raffle for conflict of interest reasons. So if Drew wants to enter, he can't draw up the papers.....

;)

The winner would have to pay tax on the 'winnings,' basically as income, so it's going to cost the winner their tickets, plus the tax bite. Interestingly, what gets recorded as "income" would probably depend on some professional assessment, and who knows what a car like that really shows in terms of "Market Value" in this country? Your car is worth the 35K for sure, but if other M5's are running in the 15-25K range, that's the level of "income" you'll need to report for the tax-man - just the "market value."

I couldn't pay 35K for the car right now, too many house expansions on the horizon. But I would throw 3-5K at tickets in the interest of increasing my odds. Just a few knuckleheads like me and you don't need too terribly many ticket-buyers.......

Just to be different, i'd do it..

but there's a few things I don't know about...

I'm afraid I am just as knuckleheaded. At a hundy a ticket, I'm sure I'd go for ten or so.

This raffle must include bombproof written explanation of how I won such a car (I'd need to memorize it) as wifey is about to deliver baby #2 (May 14) and I'm in the middle of a little construction myself

Matt, out of curiosity what did u pay total for the conversion at JK? I am most likely going to use them to import my M5.

Matt P
04-26-2005, 10:30 AM
total for JK was somewhere around $10K - though I do know for sure that their prices have gone up since then. That figure doesn't include $3K worth of mechanical work before it was shipped, shipping costs, import taxes and customs fees & bonds, and other stuff.
