Before anyone asks. The airbag is cosmetic. I have no airbag. I THINK that one of the two stages of this style airbag COULD be hooked up. But, since my airbag i found was a blown airbag (i repaired it), there's no way to test that out ;) Anyway, it's finished. Here are more pics of the alcantara too. The whitebalance on the camera was hard to do, the alcantara is onyx black... pure black, the sun makes it look like a greyish purple.

They could easily.... but there seems to be no radio any longer ;)

I thought about wiring the cruise control, but its not really worth it since its on the stalk anyway. Its easy though, you can tap right off the PCB in the wheel.

Very nice job indeed. I love the boost gauge near the shifter. It strikes me odd that you haven't put in burled wood yet. I've taken a few pictures that would be most similar to yours. I know that it's a complete optional ordeal, but I felt that it's a nice, classy touch to the sporty interior.

... I had wood, i switched to the alcantara as it's sportier than wood. Wood is like a yacht. I don't want to drive a yacht.

Jon,

You said the two stage airbag CAN be hooked to your airbag connector ?. How ?. I thought it was impossible becuase the deployment signal/mechanism is completely different. I am researching becuase I plan to do something similar with a 4 spoke E46 wheel in my touring. My initial plan was to custom fit my airbag (existing 4 spoke wheel) to the airbag of the E46 harness. Don't know if that is feasible as I have not seen the new wheel physically. Once I got it and taken it apart, I can compare and see what can be done.

Nice finishing on your job. I am sure you are pleased with the results. Bravo!.

I didn't try it.... but a two-stage system literally has two seperate connectors on it. There is one black connector and one orange one. THey were both melted to the explosive pack due to heat of it detonating, so I didn't bother trying, but since the orange one looks JUST like ours....

Yawn, just got back to school. Had a last minute realization.. true i have a custom interior now. True, i have an E46 wheel retrofitted, but it wasn't any different than E46's with E46 wheels.

So I fixed that:

I guess I just have a niche for it. First time i've ever done anything liek this. Granted the steering wheel trim took me about 2 hrs to do right. I got it from a supplier.

just something about that fuzzy shyt that dont grab me... I really cant place it there must be a reason...just dont. I'm sure it would appeal to me in person as I'm sure the pictures arent doing it any justice at all. maybe thats it? maybe the purple hue that you said is absolutly black, just looks cheap in some sort of odd way.

I am in NO WAY saying its a crap job or anything like that Jon, it so far hasnt grabbed me at all. Maybe you bring it over and we have a look see?

lol

LOL seriously it's added about $15,000 to my cars value-by-touch. If it comes on M3s and M5s and 330 ZHPs, it can come in my car ;)

agree whole heartedly. Just wish I could picture it better...hmmm maybe photoshop the pics so the furr looks black? Has to look awesome with the contrast against the light background!

Maybe the black one needs to be shorted and orange one hook to our eixsting connector ??. I would not dare try this for fear of the airbag deploying in my face!

Any EEs here who can attest to this hypotesis ?. Shorting the black one , in so doing convert a 2 stage to a single stage ?. Maybe a long shot...

My concern is mainly dust mites picking up onto the alcantara.

May as well do an alcantara shift boot while you're at it...

No dust issues with alcantara, no more than there was with wood. Just vacuum it. Vertical surfaces are fine, the horizontal around the shifter is the one I need to clean every week or so.

I am doing an alcantara shift boot... actually... 4. Well, two shift boots and two e-brake boots. I may take offers if people like my work when finished.

Dont buy the alcantara wheel, the alcantara due to constant use bunches up and looks like **** after like 5 months.

THe boost gauge is temporary, im making a pod for that once i get my blower in.
