The alpina one doesn't appear to have anywhere to bolt the AFM onto...

why not just paint the stock one red and be done with it

Seems kind of ridiculous to me. Neither of them does anything the stock cover doesn't, and it's as phony as sticking M-badges on a non-M car.

Now what would be nice is to know how to polish and put a durable finish on the stock cover. I'm going to have mine apart for a while and wouldn't mind putting in a little time to buff it up. I know nothing about oil- and temperature-tolerant clear finishes though. Anyone?

well this is designed for the Bi turbo the AFM will be somewhere else. I think there was a pictrue for this engine running and turning it's outlet manifold into red. check it out in this forum u will know where the AFM is installed.

"This auction is for a very unique and difficult to find item, a genuine Crack Cocaine Rock for human consumption. For those familiar with Crack Cocaine, this will need no further explanation. This is a very nice example of this rarity, in fact, I can't see that it has ever been freebased!! This item, long out of production, was brought to the US by an American Serviceman on his return from Germany. It is very unusual to see one of these up for sale, I jumped at the chance to buy it and have had it for about a year, plans for its use fell through and I am now offering it for sale here."

I had this one done on my e12 I swapped a 3.5 into. Cost 100 bucks at the most. I added the stripes by hand with model paint. JWID

For that price, you would be better off hanging it on the wall in your living room as a trophy of some sort :)

That's sharp alright. Does the rest of the car look as good as this bit of engine? 8-)

So they can do a clear glossy powder coat? Who/what should I look for to get this done do you suppose? I assume that I'd first have to polish the aluminum myself before sending it off, right?
