1993 525i Touring speakers question

Since I'm 16, excuse the young age, but I'd like to replace the rear subwoofers, since this is a touring wagon, I'd really prefer NOT to have a box in the rear (no real place to put it) So I figure I'd buy 2 8" subwoofers to replace the stock units. I would also invest in a amp. as well.

My true question is, does anyone have any suggestions on what type to buy? I like the boom, but I would still love to hear the music.

Another question is, should I stick with the 2 rear subs or just get a subwoofer tube? Does anyone have any experience in replacing the rear subs?

I just also want to mention that I love my BMW, absolutely the best car on this planet. I know a lot of early drivers prefer trucks/suvs, but in my opinion, one of the greatest cars ever made.

OMFG. You're 16 and driving a 525i Touring???

What's your insurance cost? Over here (UK) you'd be lucky to even *get* insurance, let alone a year's insurance for less than the cost of the whole car...

When I started driving at 17 (youngest you can drive in the UK), my car was a 1.3 litre Ford Escort wagon. Four speed manual. Nothing electric aside from the heated window, heater and the radio. And that's an analogue tuner radio, not a radio/cassette, or new-fangled CD player.

My insurance is $80 per month, I'm located in Texas. It was originally my mother's car, she now drives a Jaguar XKR. Like I said earlier, it's a perfect car, never had matience nor had any problems aside from a few fan belts being replaced. I baby this car like nothing else, I wash and wax this car every weekend.

Better off having a self amp'd plug and play sub that allows you to still load up your wagon, and replace all your tweeters and mids with upgraded speakers driven by a new amp.

You won't ever get sub's up where you're trying.

I have long experience in audio engineering, so what ever u put in the roof top will not give u that sound. a subwoofer without the box will not give u the boom sound u like. anyway. the best thing is to get a tube OR ... get 2 boxes in the 2 corners behind the back seat and install the 3 way ovals ( kenwood, pioneer ..etc ) that would do. once you think about upgrading the audio sys. you have consider the space ... u need to sacrifice space.

Right, I'll take the advice and install a tube subwoofer. I think the approx demensions near the back two seats are 36" x 15" x 12". Fine to fit in a box, but since it is a touring wagon, it's more likely that they'll be stolen since they're easy to see.

So, I'll just install the tube for now, any suggestions on the right one to purchase?

Can you retrofit the roller-blind style luggage cover to your wagon? That would make the tube a little less obvious...

for me ... I look for god quality ... non branded types... best deals ... and the cheapest. once u buy a brand u have to spend two times more. also it depends on the amplifier ur using. if ur using a 100Watts RMS then u will need at least 10" woofer I prefair 12" square type. OR .... you go for the wider box with 2 ovals and one subwoofer in the middle. something like a 12" woofer. u will have a night club in ur car. believe me .... audio systems isn't always about advice ... its what u wanna hear. once ur satisfied then ur done. if ur like me ... I'm never satisfied ... I have 18" subwoofer 2X 12" squared subs on the back dash. and 2 other 12" in a box on the rear seat with 2 piso tweeters and my original OEM speakers are working as midrange and high. thats hell more than enough but ... is there still more to do? I will say yes ... adding good mids on the rear and some little more bass at the front is applicable. so ... stick with what u really nead. good luck ...

the best thing is to screw the base of the tube to the floor. that will halp it stuck when u drive ur car ... loose speakers is really pain !!! u will hate listening to anything if the connections starts to move with the box slipping here and there. also it will help it from being stolen ... dark tint is good too ... it will prevent the UV from damaging the speakers too.
