I've been looking at a 525 auto, currently on ebay: went to view/test drive. Car seems very nice, although service history is missing: Its not a UK car, the clocks are KM, and the spec is better. The car has been fitted with an aftermarket air filter.

The problem I found on driving is if you put your foot down to accelerate as quickly as possible, the engine races to red line, then drops into gear. Also when coming to a halt you can feel the car come out of gear.

I don't know if the 'box is in need of adjustment or its something more major. I've even wondered if the air filter could be causing the problem.

Any Ideas?

Have had gearbox issues with two BMW autos, I'd run, not walk away from this one. Here in the UK, an auto gearbox rebuild is mostly north of £1000.

Ask me how I know...

I agree with Marshy, run rabbit run rabbit run run run.
I used to charge £1400 to recon the auto box.
