I thought that you may be interested in a post from Jim Conforti that I saved some time ago. He rates the pass and fail brands along with the respective corrosion indexes:

Personally - I think its more in the maintenance of the car than the coolant that is used. I have seen BMW's still running factory coolant that have cooling system dedgredation. Have also seen cars using aftermarket products with no cooling system problems. I would advise - change it every two years no mater what !

least four years old and most likely much more than that. Everybody has come up with different coolants since that was posted. Prestone for example has changed its coolant at least 2 times in the last four years and they offer 3 different prestones, zerex makes at least 8 different coolants as seen here (https://www.valvoline-technology.com/data/VALV/ValvExtSecurity.nsf/fsZerex?OpenFrameSet)
And a number of the rest have changed as well. So i would venture to say that that data is no longer accurate. Since my car doesn't drink coolant I'll pay the extra and stick with the factory coolant for now. In other cars I've been using the new prestone extended life green thats supposed to be compatible with all other coolants but its still 10.00 a gallon.

that is outrageous. Even the parts guy said "WTF?" Granted, I did get a 10% CCA discount which dropped it to $25.52 out the door, but DAYUM! It's getting too pricey to buy these days, even from BavAuto (it's $21.95 plus a LOT of shipping!)

youch!

Zerex G05 is the correct antifreeze. BMW uses Zerex G48. The two are compatable. I think I paid under $10.00.

Haha...I guess I'm lucky. The only redeeming characteristic of BMW Cleveland (Kruse) is that they sell Cool Blue for $17/gal.

I thought it was outrageous...still do...but it beats the heck out of $26 or whatever you guys are paying; and I'm not even a CCA member ;)

best, whit

Patrick said they had it in 1.5 liter bottles, it worked out to about 18 a gallon that way. I just had him add it to an order for some mercedes parts

Mine's been drinkin a gallon a month, so I've been putting in Prestone at $9/gallon. I'll take the 0.7 corrosion index...

Nice. I got you matched =). Peter Pan BMW in San Mateo California sells coolant for around $17 a gal too.

Steve Haygood sells, uses & recommends the Mercedes coolant for our cars. $16.50 per gallon, shipped to your door.

Coolant goes for about $26 to $30 in the BMW stealership of West Springfield MA. I use Preston Lowtox, and not complaining so far.

Here in sunny England, I use Comma Xtreme Green which is approved by BMW. It works out at £2.50 a litre as opposed to over £5.00 a litre for the BMW stuff.

The Comma stuff is available pretty much everywhere.
